Puget Sound Energy substation project

Covington area capacity

Project overview

View project map, with

location of potential substation

As demand for power increases in Covington and the nearby areas of unincorporated King County, PSE is evaluating potential methods for improving electric reliability and capacity for customers in the area. This project is in the planning phase, meaning we are determining the best solution to meet the area's needs. One option under consideration is to build a new electric substation in Covington.

A new substation would improve reliability, capacity and greater system flexibility, resulting in fewer outages. The substation could include one 25 megavolt ampere (MVA) transformer and have the space to add a second 25 MVA transformer, allowing PSE to double the capacity in the future without changing the substation footprint.

Committed to keeping you informed

We previously held a community meeting on siting a potential substation, and identified a suitable location for the substation at 26044 180th Ave SE.

PSE will continue to provide updates to the community. We will notify residents and businesses near the project area when a solution is selected and before any construction begins. We aim to complete the work with as little disruption as possible.
