November Wind Storm

Damage assessment and restoration efforts continue

Crews and hundreds of support staff continue their around-the-clock work to restore power to those who remain out as a result of yesterday’s damaging windstorm.

As of 6 p.m., we have 354,733 customers out of power. Power has been restored to more than 170,000 customers since the start of the storm. However, due to extensive wind and equipment damage, power for some customers may be out for an extended period. We are updating our outage map with the best information available and will continue to provide updates as restoration progresses. Our focus for tonight continues to be on transmission lines to critical infrastructure and public safety.

Crews continue to survey damage on the ground and helicopter patrols will resume tomorrow morning. Our first step in restoring power is damage assessment: getting a look at what’s been done to the system and determining the extent of repairs that are needed. We will provide restoration updates as information becomes available.

Crews from other utilities from Washington State, British Columbia, Idaho and Oregon have all shown up to assist in the repair of our electric system. Support from these outside agencies ensures that PSE restores power to our communities as soon as possible.

Adding a brand new charger to your home?

Maximize the benefits of charging

Our home charger rebate isn’t the only way to save. Customers purchasing a Level 2 charger from the PSE Marketplace with a PSE rebate are automatically pre-enrolled in the PSE Flex EV program.

As a participant in Flex EV, your electric vehicle charger will automatically adjust its charging times around Flex events, helping to ease strain on the grid during times when energy demand is higher than normal.

With Flex EV, you can earn rewards while joining others to help smooth energy demand during peak times. Upon installing your charger, PSE’s program partner Autogrid or your charger’s manufacturer will contact you to complete the enrollment process. You’ll then receive a $100 incentive for joining ($50 after May 31) and $0.50 for every kilowatt-hour of electricity saved during Flex events.*

* Customers participating in PSE’s Time of USE pilot are not eligible for the Flex EV incentive.

More details

  • Rebate eligibility

To receive a PSE rebate on a Level 2 home charger, customers must:

    • Be a residential PSE electric account holder
    • Own, lease or have ordered an electric vehicle
    • Purchase a qualified Level 2 charger
    • Install the Level 2 charger in a property within PSE’s electric service area

  • What is PSE Flex?

PSE Flex empowers customers to work together to smooth out energy demand through smart technology and simple actions. It’s a way to help meet our region’s growing energy needs and prevent undue stress on our electrical system.

Participants in PSE Flex are encouraged to reduce their energy consumption for a few hours during periodic Flex events – such as days with extreme temperatures – through simple actions like curbing their electric vehicle charging, adjusting their thermostat and more. Customers will receive financial incentives for participating in PSE Flex and Flex events but have the option to opt out of Flex events on an event-by-event basis.

PSE Flex will play a pivotal role in our commitment to providing 100 percent carbon-free electricity by 2045. Your participation in PSE Flex helps us use more renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar.

  • When you charge matters

Whether or not you’re participating in PSE Flex, when you charge your electric vehicle matters. Charging at certain times of day – overnight or in the middle of the afternoon – is better for both the electrical grid and environment. It’s at those times when electricity consumption is at its lowest and energy from renewable sources like solar and wind is most available.

PSE recommends charging your EV between during the following hours:

    • 10 p.m. – 6 a.m. weekdays
    • 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. weekdays
    • Anytime on weekends
  • Frequently asked questions

Do I have to own an EV already to take advantage of the home charger rebate?
Yes, you must have already purchased, leased or reserved an electric vehicle in order to qualify for the home charger rebate.

What Level 2 chargers qualify for the home charger rebate?
Level 2 chargers purchased through the PSE Marketplace qualify for the home charger rebate. In addition, these qualifying charger models purchased in 2024 qualify for a retroactive rebate.

What if I rent my home?
If you rent a home with dedicated parking, check with your landlord about electrical access. Plug-in Level 2 chargers will be available in the PSE Marketplace this spring. For hardwired chargers, your landlord may want to handle the installation. If you live in a multifamily property, tell your property management team or landlord about PSE Up & Go Electric for Multifamily, which offers incentives covering up to 100 percent of the cost to install EV charging for tenants.

Can I participate in PSE Flex if I only use a Level 1 charger at home?
No, participating in PSE Flex is only for customers using a Level 2 charger at home. However, customers with an AMI meter who heat and/or cool with PSE electricity and have a qualifying thermostat may enroll that device. See the PSE Flex page for more information.

Does PSE offer a discount for charging during certain hours?
PSE is currently running a time-of-use pilot for certain customers, which provides a financial incentive for charging at certain times of day. This program is not available for all customers at this time. Customers cannot participate in both the time-of-use pilot and PSE Flex. However, customers in the time-of-use pilot may still receive a rebate on Level 2 chargers.

How do I know if my home can handle a new charger?
Make sure you or your installer contacts our Customer Construction Services team at 1-888-321-7779 (7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Friday) to make sure your existing service can support the new electric vehicle charger.
