Electricity supply

Puget Sound Energy is the largest energy utility in the state, providing electric power to more than 1.2 million customers. As of December 31, 2023, PSE’s electric power resources, which include company-owned or controlled resources as well as those under long-term contract, had a total capacity of approximately 6,512 megawatts (MW).

We’re undergoing the most significant transformation in our history as we strive to meet Washington state’s clean energy laws - some of the most ambitious in the nation - and deliver on our customers’ expectations for energy that is clean as well as safe, reliable and affordable.

Our diversified mix

To ensure system reliability, we maintain a diverse portfolio of generation resources to serve our customers. This includes renewable and non-emitting generation resources including wind, hydroelectric, solar, and battery storage.

In addition to large, utility-scale resources, we are also pursuing energy produced locally and in partnership with our neighborhoods and communities through programs like Community Solar.

We also generate electricity with our own thermal power plants, natural gas and coal, which help balance the variability of renewable resources. We own and operate several natural-gas-fired power plants in the Puget Sound region. By the end of 2025, in accordance with Washington state law, we will no longer serve our customers with coal-fired electricity.
