Puget Sound Energy provides South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity with solar installations
The non-profit was awarded $68,808 as part of PSE’s GPSG
Bellevue, Washington (10/17/2023) Puget Sound Energy (PSE) and the South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity (SPSHH) will host a ribbon cutting event celebrating a new solar array at its Yelm location, which will help benefit lives across the region it has served through building homes and home since 1989.
Puget Sound Energy awarded SPSHH with a $68,808 Green Power Solar Grant (GPSG) earlier this year to install a 20.72-killowatt solar array, which will generate an estimated 20,720 kilowatts annually.
This project is estimated to produce 99 percent of South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity’s annual electricity.
“PSE is excited to see these solar panels offsetting some of South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity’s operating costs,” said Aaron August, Senior Vice President, Chief Customer and Transformation Officer at PSE. “This will allow them to focus on providing access to safe and affordable housing in the community.”
Over the years, PSE has awarded Thurston County organizations with $581,641 in Green Power Solar Grants. The GPSG funds the installation for new solar arrays, lowering operating costs, reducing carbon footprints and providing clean energy for our state.
“Harvesting the power of the sun in Yelm, we're not just cutting ribbons today; we're embracing a future powered by clean energy at the Yelm Habitat Store,” said Greg Laura, interim Chief Executive Officer of South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity. “PSE’s support fuels our mission, and together, we're making Yelm shine brighter than ever before.”
Nine other organizations throughout our service area were awarded a total of $753,620 this year.
More than 80,000 PSE customers have chosen to take part in PSE’s Green Power and Solar Choice programs, generating more than 736,000 MWh annually, enough to power nearly 70,000 homes per year.
