PSE to build new electric substation in Maple Valley

BELLEVUE, Wash. (April 22, 2009) – Puget Sound Energy on April 27 will begin construction of the new Four Corners substation at 27430 Maple Valley - Black Diamond Road SE in Maple Valley. The $6.8 million project will meet increased demand for electricity and improve reliability in the Maple Valley area and has received all required land use and construction permits.

Construction will include clearing and grading the site, constructing the substation, connecting the substation to the transmission line, restoring the landscape, and installing approximately one mile of new underground electrical distribution feeder. PSE’s substation construction contractor will access the substation site primarily via Maple Valley - Black Diamond Road Southeast, using signs and flaggers when needed to direct traffic. Some road work may take place at night to avoid disrupting daytime commutes.

Primary work hours will be Mondays through Fridays from approximately 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some activities, however, may take place after 5 p.m. and on weekends.

The substation will have one 25 megawatt (MW) transformer and have space to add a second 25 MW transformer, which will allow PSE to double the capacity in the future without changing the substation footprint. Construction is expected to be complete this October.
