CNG Vehicles

Compressed natural gas-powered vehicles

Cleaner domestic fuel

Domestic natural gas is plentiful, affordable, and unlike conventional petroleum-based fuels, natural gas comes from North America. Using natural gas for transportation fuel reduces our dependence on foreign oil.

Carbon Monoxide Emissions

Natural gas vehicles emit significantly less greenhouse gas than conventional gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles.

How much does it really cost?

The cost of compressed natural gas (CNG) as a transportation fuel is surprisingly low and a CNG-powered vehicle gets about the same fuel economy as a conventional vehicle. Now available at roughly half the cost of petroleum-based fuel, CNG fuel prices are also more stable compared to the volatile price fluctuations in the market for petroleum. PSE supplies natural gas to public fueling around the Puget Sound Region. Visit for more information about fueling options.

CNG vehicles are safe and practical

Natural gas vehicles are designed and built to be safe in normal operation, fueling and accidents. As with vehicles that are fueled with petroleum-based gasoline, new natural gas vehicles are subject to federal motor vehicle safety standards and crash tests. Fueling stations are also built to high safety standards.

In most cases, fueling a CNG vehicle is not much different than fueling a gasoline-powered car. Instructions are available at the station, similar to those at traditional filling stations.
