Hot tips for your water heater

Electric hybrid water heaters (also known as heat pump water heaters) are known for their efficiency and longevity, as long as they’re well maintained and used properly.

Follow these tips to get the most out of your water heater and use less energy:

  • Choose the right setting: We recommend starting with the “Efficient/Heat Pump” setting to maximize efficiency and switching to the “Vacation” setting when you’re away. Refer to the manual for full descriptions of your water heater’s settings.
  • Combine with other products: Using low flow aerators and efficient home appliances can help you use less hot water in general!
  • Flush it out: Flush your water heater tank every 6 -12 months to clear out mineral buildup, which can hinder temperature adjustments and flow.
  • Pressure check: Mineral buildup can also prevent the temperature and pressure relief (TPR) valve from functioning. Check the TPR valve by turning it clockwise to loosen it. A properly working TPR will easily return to its resting position and a small amount of water will be discharged.
  • Swap or clean the filter: Since electric hybrid water heaters pull warmth from the air, they have an air filter. Clean or replace the filter regularly.
  • Clean the drain: All electric hybrid water heaters have a drain that removes water from the heat pump. Follow the instructions in your equipment manual to clean this drain once a year.
What makes your water heater so efficient?

Electric hybrid water heaters use 60% less energy than standard models by pulling warmth from their surroundings and using it to heat water in the storage tank. This is why electric hybrid water heaters need plenty of space or a location with ventilation, like a closet with louvered doors – so they have enough air to pull from.

What’s that sound? Electric hybrid water heaters make about as much noise as an electric fan. This is normal and indicates your water heater is working efficiently!
