Over the past five years, PSE has donated more than $3 million to King County's charitable organizations — through our corporate giving program and the Puget Sound Energy Foundation. Members of TeamPSE, our employee volunteer program, donate many hours of personal time and lots of energy to support our King County community. We've also given more than $71 million in energy efficiency grants and rebates to King County customers.
United Way of King County
Our largest charitable contribution in the county is to the United Way, which works to address our community's toughest challenges — such as homelessness and early learning — by bringing together caring people to actively help those in need.
We're helping to make children's wishes come true by supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which provides once-in-a-lifetime experiences for children with life-threatening illnesses. Recently we were privileged to help fulfill a 13-year-old boy's dream of being a superhero.
"Electron Boy" came to the PSE headquarters in Bellevue to save King County from the diabolical plans of "Dr. Dark" and "Blackout Boy." Eric, aka Electron Boy, lives in Bellevue and is fighting cancer. Over 300 PSE employees cheered on our hero as he freed Energy Jim (PSE Community Relations Manager, Jim Hutchinson) from the bucket of one of our hybrid line-service trucks. Eric kept one of the PSE employee's signs that read, "You rock, Electron Boy," to which he added on the back, "Yes, I do."
American Red Cross
Safety is one of our top priorities at PSE, so it is fitting that we sponsor emergency preparedness programs through the King County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Our president, Kimberly Harris, sits on the board of directors, deepening our connection and commitment to our community's safety in the event of a natural disaster.
We are proud to support Hopelink, which helps our homeless, young, old and disabled neighbors by sponsoring food drives every year.
In collaboration with the cities of Kirkland, Redmond, Bellevue and Bothell during their holiday lighting events, we raised more than $5,000 and collected more than 400 pounds of food for Hopelink through our "Bright Lights, Warm Home" holiday events. PSE distributed more than 400 strands of energy efficient LED holiday lights in exchange for cash and food donations.
King County food banks
Every year, we support Northwest Harvest, Food Lifeline and other local food banks with grants from the Puget Sound Energy Foundation and food drives coordinated by PSE employees. These organizations provide an important safety net for local families in need. We are proud to be a perennial supporter.
Washington Business Week
For more than 30 years, PSE has supported Washington Business Week. Through on-campus and in-school programs, WBW has brought together hundreds of businesses and working professionals to inspire high school students to recognize their potential as responsible employees, employers and citizens.
We have a wonderful quality of life in King County, and part of that is due to the variety of cultural activities offered in the area. To make all of our lives richer, we regularly sponsor ArtsFund, which provides grants, funding and advocacy for nearly 70 local dance, film, theater, music, literary and fine arts organizations.
Other King County organizations we support
Boys and Girls Club of Bellevue, Cascade Land Conservancy, Federal Way and Auburn symphonies, Fusion Multiservice Center, Green River Community College, Kent Interim Pediatric Care, King County Library System Foundation, Mountains to Sound Greenway, Pacific Science Center, Seattle Aquarium, Seattle Children's Theater, Vashon Allied Arts, Washington Clean Tech Alliance, Woodland Park Zoo, and the YWCA, just to name a few.
Energy efficiency grants and rebates
Over the past five years in King County we have provided energy efficiency grants to the tune of $59,216,040 for commercial businesses and $12,203,192 in residential rebates.
