The equipment supplier for the Bainbridge Island Demand Response Pilot program informed Puget Sound Energy that potential battery leakage in White-Rogers thermostats (model number #1F88) may result in overheating of the unit and create a potential fire hazard. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently announced a voluntary recall of these products by White-Rodgers. Please refer to the CPSC’s website for details about the recall.
PSE previously issued a Safety Notice regarding the White-Rodgers thermostats and instructed affected customers participating in the Bainbridge Island Demand Response Pilot Program to remove the batteries from the units. If you have not already done so, you should immediately remove the two AA batteries from the thermostat and contact White-Rodgers for a free repair kit. If battery removal causes changes in furnace operation, contact White-Rodgers toll-free at 1-888-624-1901 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. CT Monday through Friday.
