PSE schedules early morning power outage in Wilkeson and Carbonado Sunday, Sept. 13
Upgrading electric system to affect 500 customers from 2 to 5 a.m.
BELLEVUE, Wash. ( Sept. 3, 2009) – Puget Sound Energy is notifying customers in Wilkeson and Carbonado that the utility has scheduled a power outage from 2 to 5 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, to allow crews to safely construct an $11 million multi-year upgrade of portions of the utility’s electrical transmission system to increase reliability and system capacity in anticipation of growing customer needs in the Enumclaw, Buckley, Wilkeson and Carbonado areas.
PSE has sent a letter to 500 local customers and placed an ad in community newspapers to notify those in the area that they will be without electric service for a few hours while the utility takes its Wilkeson substation, 213 Church St., offline to safely allow crews to bring a new 115 kV transmission line into the substation.
This is the second of three scheduled early morning outages for this project. The first was on July 25 and the third will be in November.
PSE began phase 1 of the electrical transmission system project on July 20. The work includes upgrading eight miles of existing 55 kV transmission line to 115 kV from the 1000 block of Stevenson Avenue in Enumclaw to just past the Wilkeson substation.
To date, the project, which includes removing existing wire, installing new high-capacity wire and replacing more than 141 poles along the utility corridor, is more than 33 percent complete with 50 poles having been replaced. In addition, PSE is installing a fiber-optic line for PSE communications and system protection.
Phase 2 of the project is scheduled to begin next year to complete the multi-year project to convert the voltage of a total of 20.2 miles of transmission line between the cities of Enumclaw and Orting and a switching station, as well as converting or completely rebuilding four substations.
PSE thanks the public for their patience and understanding. Customers are encouraged to contact PSE at 1-888-225-5773 with any questions or concerns.
