PSE bringing natural gas service to Upper Kittitas County

Hosting Feb. 22 open house in Cle Elum

BELLEVUE, Wash. (Feb. 12, 2007)– Puget Sound Energy (PSE) is pleased to announce that natural gas service is now available for the first time in Upper Kittitas County. PSE will host an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, at the Upper County Centennial Center in Cle Elem to discuss expanding natural gas service to local homes and businesses."Natural gas is a great source of energy, whether for residential, commercial, or industrial uses," said Brian Lenz, PSE manager of Local Government and Community Relations. "We're excited about the opportunity to offer the benefits of natural gas to the Upper County."

PSE built a new supply pipeline last summer to extend the utility's natural gas service from the Lower Kittitas Valley to the Upper County. The underground 20-mile, 12-inch steel pipeline runs from Thorp through downtown Cle Elum to the Suncadia development outside Roslyn. With natural gas now filling the pipeline, PSE is shifting its focus to building the neighborhood gas mains and service lines needed to serve individual customers.

"The open house is a great opportunity to learn more and for PSE to hear from those who want natural gas service for heating, cooking, fireplaces, and grills," said Lenz. "We will also have information on several natural gas rebates that are available for furnaces, hot water heaters and appliances."

The number of customers interested in receiving natural gas service along a particular street or in a certain neighborhood, Lenz noted, is a major factor in determining precisely when and where PSE will begin building the area's distribution system.

Those who cannot attend the open house, but are interested in learning more about natural gas service, can e-mail PSE at, or call PSE at 1-800-562-1482.
