Frequently Asked Questions

What rate plan should I select for my business?

  • Our most common commercial natural gas rate is rate 31. However, if your business is using more than 1,500 therms consistently each month, then gas rate 41 may be a better option. We also have curtailable gas rates 85, 86, and 87, and offer the ability for customers to purchase the commodity through a third-party marketer.
  • Electric customer rate is set by their voltage requirements (primary vs. secondary) and their demand used during a 12-month period.

How often can I change my rate?

Natural gas plans can change once per year. Electric rates are determined by voltage requirements and the demand used during a 12-month period.

Do I have to buy my natural gas from PSE?

Large business customers may purchase their natural gas from a third-party marketer and have the gas delivered by PSE. We require 60 days notice of your intent to become a natural gas transportation customer. To become a transportation customer, you will be required to enter into a one-year contract with PSE for the delivery of the gas, and install a telephone line at the gas meter for PSE telemetering equipment.

Are there penalties for becoming a transportation customer?

There are no penalties. However, there may be certain charges or credits associated with a transportation rate schedule. Contact your account executive for details.

What do I need to do to install an earthquake valve?

Earthquake valves must be installed by a plumbing contractor on your fuel line upstream from PSE's natural gas meter. Please call us at 1-888-225-5773 or send an e-mail with your request to schedule a time for us to turn off your gas while the earthquake valve is installed. When installation is complete, we will turn the gas back on.
