Puget Sound Energy Reveals Judges for “Re-Energized By Design” Room Makeover Competition
Local Design and Green Experts Sharpen Their Opinions and Wits to Judge Contestants on Design and Efficiency
BELLEVUE, Wash. (Oct. 4, 2012) – Today Puget Sound Energy announced that local society and events photographer Duell Fisher, 425 and South Sound Magazine editor Lisa Patterson and radio personality Marty Riemer will be joining PSE’s Re-Energized by Design campaign as judges. The campaign, the first of its kind in the region, promises to be full of surprises, drama and excitement as six residential PSE customers compete to win energy efficient products and $5,000 in a fast-paced, high-energy series of room-by-room energy-efficient makeover challenges. The trio of Re-Energized by Design judges bring a mix of aesthetic expertise and sharp opinions to evaluate the competitors’ room makeovers for how well they combine beautiful design with energy-efficiency.
“We are thrilled to have Duell, Marty and Lisa on board to amp up the campaign’s fun while helping our customers maximize their creativity in pairing interior design with energy saving products,” said Cal Shirley, PSE’s vice president of customer solutions. “These three local personalities will bring a fresh perspective to our customers as they learn how to save more money on their energy bills through energy efficiency without compromising great style within their home.”
Duell Fisher is a celebrity photographer with a finger on the pulse of the Puget Sound’s social scene, documenting gala events and fashion throughout the region. Lisa Patterson is brutally honest in identifying some of the best (and worst) home design in the area in her role as editor of both 425 and South Sound Magazines. She has strong opinions about how to create great interiors and will keep contestants on their toes. A self-described “green geek,” Marty Riemer showcases his opinions about design, green living and many other topics on his weekly podcast and during his show on Seattle’s KMTT-FM. Where Duell and Lisa provide a keen eye for aesthetics and function, Marty will provide crucial green expertise to the team as they judge just how successful contestants are in making their projects as green as they are beautiful.
Re-Energized by Design contestants will compete in a series of six room makeovers using the latest sleek and stylish energy-efficient products provided by campaign sponsors GE and Electrolux. After each makeover challenge, the panel of judges will review and score each contestant’s effort. The lowest-scoring contestant in each round will be eliminated.
All contestants will receive free, energy-efficient light emitting diode (LED) and compact fluorescent light (CFL) lighting from GE and a small stipend to spend on each room’s makeover. The final three contestants will win a high efficiency clothes washer and matching dryer from Frigidaire, and the final two contestants will win a Frigidaire Ultra Efficient Kitchen with refrigerator, dishwasher, range and microwave. The last contestant standing will win a $5,000 prize.
Each contestant’s efforts will be supported by a dedicated design coach who will provide style guidance and encouragement. Contestants will also be filmed as they complete each room challenge, and PSE will release a series of “webisodes” showing the journey of each contestant as they race to make their homes more beautiful and energy efficient while facing sharp critiques from the judges.
All home-owning PSE electric and natural gas customers living in an existing single-family property or attached housing with four units or less are eligible to become contestants. To enter, customers must create a short video introducing themselves and their home and upload it to the Re-Energized by Design website at PSE.com/ReEnergizedByDesign before the Oct. 31 entry deadline.
