Taylor Bridge Fire Response: Puget Sound Energy Safety Information

(Aug. 15, 2012) - The safety of our customers and community is the top priority of the local Puget Sound Energy staff and crews as they join the many state, county and municipal personnel working to contain and control the Taylor Bridge Fire.  PSE staff and crews from the Kittitas Service Center and Ellensburg Customer Business Office are on-site to assist with local firefighters and community agencies in this effort, in addition to resources from across PSE.

Puget Sound Energy reminds Kittitas County residents:

  1. Take extra precaution around power poles and other structures. Even if power poles and lines are standing upright and appear to be okay, they may be weakened from the fire and potentially dangerous.
  2. Stay away from any downed lines – they may be power lines and they may be energized;
  3. If you were evacuated and return to your home to find you do not have electricity, please call PSE at 1-888-225-5773 to report the outage;
  4. If you do not have power at your home and you have overhead distribution lines serving your home, please check to be sure there is no damage to the weatherhead, -- the roof-mounted pole-like structure where the electrical service enters your home.  If the weatherhead is damaged, it must be repaired by a licensed electrician and approved by an inspector. Once the repairs are completed, call PSE at 1-888-225-5773; a service crew will be dispatched to restore electrical power to your home.

We have seven line crews in Eastern Washington assessing damage and working to protect our system, with 16 additional line crews ready to deploy from Western Washington – they will begin repair work on our system as soon as fire officials say they can safely access our equipment.

PSE donated $5,000 to the Kittitas County Red Cross and $2,500 to the Cle Elum Centennial Senior Center.  PSE employees are delivering Gatorade to firefighters, and PSE emergency management staff is coordinating closely with Kittitas County Emergency Operations Center.
