Puget Sound Energy distribution project
North Bend distribution line project
Fall 2011 project completion
- Construction was completed in late November 2011
Project overview
Puget Sound Energy has upgraded the electric distribution system serving customers in the North Bend neighborhoods of Wilderness Rim and Uplands (See project map). PSE upgraded the electric distribution system to reduce the frequency and duration of outages experienced by customers in the area. In the past five years before the project, many customers served by this distribution line experienced as many as 11 outages. With the addition of the second source of power, we expect to see a reduction in the number and duration of scheduled and unscheduled customer outages.
The project included:
- Upgrading the existing overhead and underground distribution lines, which run from the intersection of Southeast Orchard Drive and Hwy 202, under I-90 to 415th Way.
- Constructing a new three-phase underground distribution line from the intersection of Southeast 142nd Street and 415th Way to the intersection of Southeast 172nd Street and Cedar Falls Road.
What is a distribution line?
Distribution lines are critical links in the electrical system moving power from electrical substations through distribution transformers directly to homes or businesses. Unlike transmission lines, distribution lines typically carry less than 55 kV; PSE’s distribution lines are typically 12.5 kV. Distribution lines can be installed both above and below ground.
