PSE Upgrades Greenwater Substation to Better Serve Customers by Increasing Electric Capacity
PSE Electric Customers in Crystal Mountain and Greenwater Areas to Have Brief Scheduled Power Outages on Tuesday, Aug. 30
Greenwater, Wash. (Aug. 23, 2011) – Puget Sound Energy is working to better serve customers in Crystal Mountain and Greenwater areas by upgrading its Greenwater substation; this requires PSE to shut off power twice on Tuesday, Aug. 30 at approximately 8 a.m. and again in the evening after crews complete the necessary work. Each outage is expected to last less than 10 minutes .
PSE is sending letters and calling the approximately 390 affected customers who will be without electric service while PSE takes the substation at 17525 Mountainside Dr. E offline. It’s necessary to take the substation offline to allow crews to safely complete necessary work at the site.
The substation upgrade is part of a multi-year effort to upgrade PSE’s electric transmission system in the Greenwater and Crystal Mountain areas. The substation upgrades will provide residents and businesses in Crystal Mountain and Greenwater with increased electric capacity; currently, the substation is operating above its design capacity during periods of peak load. The upgrades will double the capacity of the current substation. Additionally, the upgrades are the foundation for future electric system improvements that will increase electric reliability in the area.
The substation upgrade is expected to be completed in late October 2011. The completion will require a similar set of outages that customers will be notified of in advance.
