PSE to Make Bainbridge Electric Reliability Improvements for Customers in Winslow and Surrounding Areas

Construction Along Sportsman Club Road will Affect Traffic

Media Advisory (Sept. 19, 2011):

What

Puget Sound Energy will be constructing a new underground neighborhood power line in the public right of way along Sportsman Club Road. The construction will impact traffic along Sportsman Club Road near Sonoji Sakai Intermediate School and Woodward Middle School. PSE is working with the school district to have signs and flaggers help direct traffic safely around PSE crews; at times, traffic will be limited to one lane.

Where

Sportsman Club Road between PSE’s Murden Cove substation, 9560 Sportsman Club Road, and NE New Brooklyn Road.

When

Monday, Oct. 3, through approximately Friday, Dec. 30. Please note: this schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather.

Why

To improve electric reliability for nearly 1,600 residential and business customers in and around downtown Winslow. The new underground line will help meet demand on what is currently the fourth most heavily loaded power line in PSE’s 1.1 million customer service area. When the project is complete, stress on the existing line will be eased, improving electric reliability for all customers.

Background

Overloaded neighborhood distribution lines can hamper the ability to meet local energy needs during periods of high demand, such as cold winter weather, and can slow power restoration efforts during storms and other emergencies. Adding the new neighborhood distribution line will provide a source of power to the downtown core that is substantially underground and allow:

  • Greater capacity to meet local energy needs on cold winter days
  • More flexibility to switch customers to different power sources in the event of an outage
