Puget Sound Energy Trains Local Emergency Responders to Ensure Public Safety around Downed Power Lines and Natural Gas Leaks

Puget Sound Energy will conduct a preparedness and response training session for emergency first responders, including local firefighters, police, 911 operators and emergency management personnel on how to identify and manage emergency situations involving electricity or natural gas.
The training includes:
- A live, outdoor demonstration showing the characteristics of burning natural gas when it escapes from a damaged pipe and meter and ignites
- An overview of PSE’s response coordination and procedures

PSE conducts safety training sessions year-round for emergency responders in the 10 Washington state counties where the utility provides energy service. PSE also encourages natural gas awareness with an online quiz, which is accessible to everyone. Annually, more than 1,000 first responders on average participate in PSE’s safety training program.
